Hello everyone! Good to see you on this wonderful day! I told you about making jean quilts in an earlier post well today I sold my first quilt! I wish I could show you a picture of it but we still use dial-up so it takes forever to upload pictures, but I will try to post a picture when I get access to high speed internet.

Yesterday (Sunday), I and my sister Grace spent our afternoon at a local church watching a group of ten kids’s so that their parents could attend a class how to get their finances in order. It was a good experience for Grace and me because most of these kids went to public school and had not grownup in the church. It is so funny when you spend most of your time around one group of kids who has long ago started reading the Bible for themselves and the stories of David and Goliath and now discuss why God protected Cain from receiving the just punishment for killing Able and the good, the bad and the ugly about the early church. The kids at this church however, all of this is new and exciting.

Since I have grown up in the church, I two often read the Bible stories and feel like they are just the same old stories that I have heard all my life but these kids reminded me that those stories are not only exciting for the kid that has never heard them, they can still teach me things if I would only look for the lessons.

Welcome to yet another edition of Writing Saturday as we explore ways to help us write better and to the glory of God. Today, we are going to talk about one of the most important virtues of a great writer; being a great reader.

From an early age, my parents have encouraged me to read. They have surrounded me and my siblings with book (over three hundred of them) but not just any books; they have had us read only those books which are good, wholesome, and well written. I can safely say that part of how I learned to write was by reading.

As a blogger, it has helped me to read some of the really good and popular blogs; such as YLCF and Maidens of Worth. These have helped me to see how to run a blog that is worth reading and people love.

As most of you know, I love to write and hope to one day become a published author. What many of you might not know is that my parents have the same dream. My mom and dad have written several books, though none of them have been published as of yet, however, we seem to be getting a little closer to that dream. Yesterday my parents sent off a book proposal to a well known press and we hope that they will be interested in publishing their book.

One of the things that I am sure you have, or will notice when you are reading my posts, is that I have am constantly struggling with my spelling and grammar. It has never been my strong subject, and that is why my books will take about two to three years from the time I write a book, to the time I have it ready to publish. You can help me improve my blog though by leaving a comment when you see a mistake.

What about you? What is you dream of becoming and how can others help you achieve that dream?

As we get closer and closer to Election Day, all of us who are going to vote (and some of us who are not old enough too), start biting our nails with worry over which candidate is going to win. We know which one we want to win and we may even think the other candidate is one of the worst things that could happen to our beloved country. Today I would like us to take a step back and take a deep breath and remember that God is in control.

If the candidate that wins is the one that we absolutely didn’t want, God is still in control. If the candidate we want wins the election, God is still in control. I know that I too often lose sight of that fact, I get all wrapped up in my candidate winning and making that changes I want that I forget that God can use even a person I don’t like, to do his work.

So let’s all go out and work hard to try to get the candidates that we want elected and then leave the results up to God. I would also love to hear about what you’re doing and why you are voting or like a certain candidate.

Today is the first day of fall, the season of leaves, cooler weather and the dragging out of old winter cloths. On this first day of fall, many of us will start looking for forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas Seasons and people began to whisper about what they are going to get their parents, siblings, and friends for gifts.

Here is Texas, we are thankful to start having the cooler temperatures but at the same time, I am always sad when the trees go into hibernation and everything to die back.

What is your favorite season of the year and why? What is the weather like where you live?

On this, the seventh anniversary of one of the saddest days in all of history, I hope that all of us will take a moment to remember those who lost their live on September 11, 2001.

We are a forgetful people, we forget the important lessons that were thought to us Yesterday, last week, a month ago, a year ago and even a decade ago. But let us not forget the lessons that we learned on September 11th. Let us not forget the way we felt and what we were doing. Let us remember that even though we are a country full of conflicting ideas and goals, that we are all Americas and we share on of the greatest country’s on earth and most have compassion on those in need.

I personally would like to thank the men and women in uniform who give of their time, blood, and even their lives so that I can sit here and have the freedom to blog what a want, when I want. I would also like to thank the first responders who daily work so hard to keep us safe.

We will never forget September 11, 2001

Sunday I stayed home but I spent over two hours worshiping God and spending time in his word. It was one of the most refreshing times I have had in a long time and it got me to thinking. To often I put God in an hour in the morning and on Sunday and the rest of my days he isn’t on my mind. I don’t think that we have to read our Bibles constantly or sit around praying half the day but I do think that God should be more of a part of my daily life.

This week, I am going to work harder on spending more time while I am about my daily life, to spend time worshiping my LORD and savior by singing to him, praying to him, and keeping my mind on godly things.

It is a new week and I am glad that you are here to share a little of your day with me. I wish I could invite you over to my house today and you and I could get to know each other. Chances are though that we live miles apart and that won’t happen so, today, I would like all those who are here to post a little something about themselves and how you found the Destiny of One.

It’s writing Saturday once again and today’s topic is creating God honoring books.

One of the biggest reasons I got into writing was that, at eleven years of age, I was already having a hard time finding good books. At that age I didn’t enjoy romances of fantasy and that left very few books to began with, but then when you start looking for books that are godly you only have a very few. And so, I decided the best way to have books that were God honoring was to write them and that is what I have worked to achieve.

We, as the writers, must be in control of the pen with which we write. For too long the majority Christian writers have played this game in their books to make them exiting; they see how close they can get there characters to doing wrong things without actually doing it or forced to choose between the lesser of two sins. This is not God honoring 99% of the time and it gets people to think about evil not what is right and good.

Now, with all that said, I do understand that sometimes characters need to have problems and obstacles’ to overcome. Sometimes our characters need to have some issues that they have to overcome but we can’t let those be so dark and evil that that is all the reader thinks about when they think about our books. We need a generation of writers that produce books, blogs and magazines based on the highest standards and the verse in Philippians that says;


Let us give the Christian community for good and wholesome books that build up the mind, not corrupt it. Let us, the young, take up their craft of writing that has passed on to us and make it better than it has ever been and let’s start with today.

Hello everyone! Glad that you could be here today and I hope that if you are new here, we will come back again. Today I would like to talk about one of my favorite pass times, reading.

I am sure that there are a lot of you out there that love to read and I am sure that there are a lot of you who, like me, are always looking for something new and interesting to read. I have a hard time finding fiction that I like because I am very picky about what I read. I don’t like books that are dark, I have high standards for what guy-girl relationships are supposed to look like, I am not a big fan of fantasy, and last and most importantly, it has to be God honoring.
This leaves me with very few books that I like to read in the fiction realm so I have developed a love for non-fiction, I especially enjoy historical stuff. Here are some of my favorite books, some of them fiction, and some of them non-fiction. If you know of some really good books, let me know about them by leaving a comment.

We all have interesting relatives and ancestors. I am sure that your parents and grandparents can tell you fun, exciting, sad and sometimes even heartbreaking stories of their family. I am so glad that God gave me a grandmother that has a love for genealogy, the quest for lost relatives. Though her, I have found that one of my ancestors was William Bradford, who came over on the Mayflower and was later the governor of Plymouth. I am also related to a wealthy plantation owner, some Oklahoma Sooners and many other interesting people.

One of the problems with this culture in general is it has not made time family. They are too wrapped up in themselves and their lives to care about their family stories and their special heritage. I am as guilty as many young people of not really caring about my past. It’s in the past and we can’t change it so why is it so important?

There are two big reasons why, one; we can learn a lot about who we are from our family and our heritage. It is one thing to say you are American, African American, Indian American or whatever group you happen to be a part of, but what does that really mean? What is you heritage and background? What events and circumstances have brought you and your family to the point they are today?

The second reason is one you have probably heard before but which is worth repeating; history often repeats it’s self. The lessons that our ancestors and the generations before us, have learned the same lessons that we are learning over today, many of which, we could have learned the easy way if we had just studied a little history.

So let’s all take a little time today to learn about our heritage and family stories. Oh, and thank you Grandmother, for helping me to find out about my heritage.

I hope that your Sunday was restful and brought you a little closer to our Almighty God. My Sunday was wonderful and I spent a lot of time with family and a lot of time working on cutting out a quilt.

As August draws to a close and September is just around the corner, I am again struck at how fast the time fly’s. It seems like only yesterday that the year 2008 started and yet here we are looking at the last few months of the year. Whenever I find myself thinking about how the fast time goes, I start thinking about how I spend my time.

Think about it, every day we spend some of our time doing useless things like watching movies, playing on the computer or even just letting ourselves be board. Those thi9ngs have there place (all expect the being board one) but what would happen if we just took a third of the time that we spent doing those things and turned them toward doing things like spending time with family, reading a non-fiction book, making something, or spending time with God? I think that we would be a lot happier and have a more fulfilling life.

So let’s try that today, let’s take the time we were going to spend watching that movie and use in to do something else more fulfilling.
