I am now caught up with the rest of my fellow Bible-in-six-months buddies! I can’t believe that I am already in the middle of Psalms and halfway through this challenge. Time just seems to be flying by right now for many reasons, and my Bible time has been such a blessing that it hasn’t been a challenge at all.


One of the things that I have enjoyed most about reading through the book of Psalms is seeing all my old notes. I have turned so many times to the book of Psalms for help, encouragement, and expression for what I am feeling that I have marked it more than any other book. So many times I have found a verse and a note about what it meant to me, and I am blessed.

Sometimes, my notes make me grateful for how far God has brought me. Sometimes I wonder how I could have forgotten that verse because of its impact on me. Sometimes (I blush to admit it) I wonder what I found in that verse at the time or what the note I left really means.

I don’t know what I will take away most from this challenge in the end, but I do know what I will take away from the book of Psalms; God showed me those verses when I needed them and spoke to me through them. Blessed be the Name of the Lord.

Did you hear about the passage of the heath care bill? That might be as stupid as asking; Did you know that most people have two eyes? Even if you don’t have a TV, radio, or newspaper, a neighbor or blogger probably told you.

I know that it is disappointing to many of my readers. Its passing probably made you angry, sad, frustrated, and maybe even a little scared. I know that I went through all those emotions but this evening I am at peace.

You know, peace is a very misunderstood thing. Many think peace is the absents of fear, chaos or any disturbance in our lives, however, that is not the case. Peace is firm belief that there is something bigger than ourselves that controls the events of our lives. Peace is more than a feeling that all is right in the world, it is the knowledge that no matter how bad things get, we have someone who will never leave us. Peace is not a land free of war and fear, it is a person that understands that no matter the outcome of the war, no matter how strong their fear, there is someone who cares for them

I hope that God will give you, the courage to lay down burdens, the grace that you need to go through what comes your way, and the peace that surpasses all understanding. Here are some verses that might help get you started.

I am still a little behind in my Bible reading. I should be in the book of Psalms, but right now I am in Ester. I plan to get caught up in the next week or so which means a lot more time in my Bible, which is a good thing.

I continue to be amazed at the fact that I am learning so much reading through the Bible this fast. In fact, I am seeing things that I haven’t seen before and am being encouraged more than I have in a long time. For example; the other day, I was reading in 2 Chronicles where Hezekiah celebrate the Passover, and I was struck by something.

“A very large crowd of people assembled in Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month. They removed the altars in Jerusalem and cleared away the incense altars and threw them into the Kidron Valley.” 2 Chronicles 30:13-14 NIV

The people had been living in and rebellion. They come together to celebrate the Passover for the first time since the judges ruled. What happens as they celebrate this holy feast? They become filled with passion with the things of God, and they go out and destroy the idols that they have been bowing down to for years.

Think about that for a moment. No decree from the king told them to, no billboard or picket signs encouraged them, no law was passed in congress, no priest, preacher, or celebrity got up and gave a speech pleading with them to do it. They did it because they were so moved by the celebration, so filled with the zeal of their God, that they went out and destroyed the very things that they had been relying on a short time before.

Too often, we (I am no exception) sit around thinking that it will take a law to remove the immoral things from this world; that it will take a big name preacher or a skilled speaker to get people to listen, or a lot of blog posts, amazing articles, and news stories to get people to change. That however, is not the case. As in Bible times, true change will come when people’s hearts turn to God. Big things will only be accomplished when the church of Christ in filled with zeal for the things of God.

How do we accomplish this? How do we change people’s hearts and have the zeal of God consume us? By living our lives each day for Him. By getting to know our Father in Heaven so well that we can’t stand the idols we have placed in our lives and sharing his love with those around us so that they can know him.

This has been a frustrating week, computer wise. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to hop on the web and do something, only to remember I can’t. Oh well, I am so thankful that I have a laptop because even though our dial-up connection failed, I could go into town a do the things I needed. I am also thankful that it seems the problem has corrected itself.

I feel like I am about to be swimming in my writing. I have a lot of articles to write and I am trying to get back to work on editing my book so I can share it. I also have a lot of little projects that I need to get, so if I am not here every day, just know that we all go through those busy times.

How are all of you doing?

As I wrote a few days ago, the written word is more powerful to me than any movie could ever be. However, I like movies, and, especially when I am not feeling well, I love to plop down on the couch and watch a movie. My favorite movies are a kind that are very hard to find, the great adventures where the good guys overcome great odds to win the battle, find the treasure, or rescue someone in distress. I am a lover of castles, knights, and the damsels in distress. I like my good guys to be good guys, not thieves, pirates, or other less-than-honest professions.




Unfortunately, it is hard to find movies like this unless you are willing to put up with gore and other things, which I am not. I like my movies to be rated G or no more than PG, and if I can find movies without romance at every turn, I really love it. Few movies are made that I just love, but I would like to share my favorites with you.



My favorite movie of all time has to be Matthew a Visual Bible production. This is a word-for-word production of the gospel of Matthew, which my family watches over and over again. There is nothing bad in it (it’s the Bible after all), though the crucifixion is bloody. But it was a powerful portrayal of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. My other three favorites are not in order. That is because I haven’t been able to come up with an order.



Facing the Giants put out by Sherwood Pictures. I am sure most of you have heard about this film and the small church in Georgia that made it. When I first heard about it I wasn’t interested, because so many Christian films are dippy and poorly made, but when I saw it I was amazed. I still get goose bumps every time I watch the death crawl scene.



In Search of the Castaways is an old, old Disney movie starring Haley Mills. I had watched it when I was real little, and we just recently rediscovered it, and it never fails to make me feel good. It is about a brother and sister whose father is a captain of a ship that has disappeared. A French man says that he found a note in bottle that will help the children find their father and that sets them of on a amazing journey.



Last on my list is The Chronicles of Narnia produced by Disney. When I saw The Lion, the Which and the Wardrobe I was amazed at the cinematography and the wonderful way they had developed the characters. I especially related to Peter, as we are both the oldest in our family and both want to keep them safe at all costs.

Hello Everyone,

For the past two days, I have been unable to connect to our Internet connection with my computer. It is funny how reliant we get on our machines. I was about five before we even had a computer and probably about twelve before I started using it for anything other than games. It wasn’t until about two years ago that I started a blog and felt the need check my email once a day. How quickly we become dependent machines these days.

I have felt lost without the ability to get on the Internet even though I only spend an hour or so on every day. It has made me rethink what I do everyday and get back to doing some non-computer things I have let slide.
Right now, I am typing this on an older computer that goes much slower than mine. It has made me remember to be grateful for the everyday things I take for granted, that are so amazing. Most of you live hundreds or even thousands of miles away from me and yet I can communicate with you through the internet. I write my words down in Texas, but people can read them all over the world. Pretty amazing, no?

Hello everyone!
I am so sorry I haven’t posted in the past couple days, I have been very tired and getting over a cold. I am hoping to post pictures of the snow that happened last week early next week and get back into the swing of things.

You will never guess what came in the mail a few days ago. The issue of Homeschool Enrichment in which my article Free Time appears! I am so excited; this is my first article to be published in a “real” magazine.

Yes, I know this post is random but I wanted to give you all an update.

Why do I love to play the Piano? I don’t have to think long about that question. The main reason I love to play piano is because it calms me.

I like to play piano because I get to make music. I don’t know how to describe it, but there is something about knowing you are making that music that is so neat. To hear a familiar tune and know that you are making it is so wonderful.

I also like to play piano whenever I am feeling worried, angry, or just don’t know what to do. Within a few minutes, my entire focus is on making the music flow and sound beautiful. It takes all my concentration to hit the right notes with the right rhythm, so it takes my mind off my problems. I soon feel so much better and am able to face my problem in a rational manner.

That is sort of like what God does for us. When we spend time laying our cares on him, praying, reading our Bible, or even just enjoying the things that he has made, we find ourselves able to face our fears. When we align our lives with his plan, when we start playing his tune, everything else fades from view.
