Different Standards Part 1

7:32 AM

We all have different standards for what movies we watch, what books we read, what we wear, and a lot of other things. I am very choosy about what I put before my eyes and what I wear but you might be even choosier or you may wonder at why I have chosen not to watch, read, or wear certain things. Standards are important things to have but if we all have different standards, who is right and who is wrong? This question as puzzled people since the beginning but the Bible gives us a good idea on how to deal with our different standards.

In the early church, there was a war of ideas going on. Some people told the new, gentile believers that they had to follow the Jewish law while some of the gentile believers think that they had to change a thing. All of it came to a head about meat that had been sacrificed to idols and Paul wrote to them and said;

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. -Romans 14:5&6 NIV.
