Adventure Between the Pages: Sophia’s Heart

This has to be one of the very best fiction books I have ever read. Sophia’s Heart, by Lori Wick, is about a woman who comes over to America from Czechoslovakia. She is a very smart woman, but because she can’t speak English very well, she is reduced to cleaning tables at a restaurant. When a woman from a Bible study she attends reaches out to Sophia, she quickly discovers what a heart of gold she has.

She helps Sophia get a job with her recently widowed brother to help with his three children. Sophia helps each of the children deal with the grief of losing their mother, and they learn to love Sophia for who she is.

The only thing about this book is that is written for an older audience. There is nothing in the book that is inappropriate for young people but it is written at an adult level, if that makes any sense. There is romance and kissing, but it felt like what I envision of courtship, even though it doesn’t go by that name. It isn’t all about feelings; it is about friendships and what people believe.

  1. This was the first Christian fiction book I ever read (in my twenties) and I read it again right afterward. Absolutely great book! Love it.

  2. I am coming to see that we have very similar taste when it comes to books. I love Lori Wick, too, and Sophie's Heart is probably my favorite out of all her works ('cept 'The Knight and the Dove' is up there, too!).

  3. Blossom - it is a great book, isn't it?

Rachelle - I have never read that one by her. Another book I will have to get through Paperback Swap.
