Even in the Darkness

7:08 PM

I have been reading through the book of Isaiah, and I find it a very comforting book. This may seem rather odd, but it is, to me. You see, the whole time in which this this book is written is dark time in Israel's history. Not only have the people fallen away from God, but their land was in upheaval. The future looked very dark and without a lot of hope.

Into the midst of the dire predictions and the punishment that is being heaped upon those who have done wrong, God gives the promise of hope over and over again. He reminds them that the darkness will not last. He reminds His people that he has a plan for them and is willing to forgive them. He tells them that this time of darkness will not last forever.

This is a powerful reminder for all of us. God's anger lats only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime. The darkness may seem never ending, but dawn is coming. Even when things seem to be in chaos all around us, God has a purpose and a plan.

What has God been teaching you?

  1. I need this reminder continually, especially where He has me at. It's hard, being in the darkness and trials/struggles, but I have to remember there will be a dawn.
    Thank you for sharing. :)

  2. What a lovely thought; thank you for sharing! It's often so difficult to read through the more boring and darker parts of the Bible, but you've pulled back to see the bigger picture here, and I really appreciate that.

I'm reading Leviticus right now (working my way through The One Year Bible), which lends itself more towards the boring end of the spectrum. But it really is amazing what Moses and the people of Israel did to show their devotion to God, and all of the sacrifices they had to present to earn His forgiveness and glory. Such a contrast to the way things are now, after Jesus' ultimate sacrifice. It's especially interesting to meditate on during the time of Lent.
